Sausage Pizza Sandwich
Mmmm. Garlic bread with our Purnell's Italian Sausage and tomato sauce. Try this recipe for your family. "It's Gooo-od!"
Directions
First, you will start preparing the sauce. Begin by heating oil on medium-high temperature in a large saucepan. Add onion and cook until tender. This should only take about 5 minutes. Then add the tomato paste, minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook for only a minute or two, until the sauce begins to darken in color.
Drain 1 can of tomatoes, but keep liquid in second can. Stir in to the simmering mixture along with a little bit of salt and pepper. Continue to simmer, mashing tomatoes with large stirring spoon until sauce thickens. This will take roughly 15 minutes. Stir in half of the amount of basil. Remove from heat and set aside.
For the sausage, cook in oil until golden brown, breaking apart the chunks as you go. Remove and set aside.
Next is sandwich assembly. Put a generous amount of sausage on the bottom piece of bread. Top with homemade sauce, cheese and left over basil. This makes 4 sandwiches and takes about 30 minutes to prepare.
