Bratwurst Bites Wrapped in Bacon

This recipe is a Gooo-od appetizer for your tailgating parties. For an extra kick of heat, add a slice of jalapeno!

Directions

Using a small fork, poke the bratwurst links several times and place into a saucepan with the beer. Heat the saucepan over high heat until it begins to boil, then reduce to medium heat. Simmer for 15 minutes and remove the bratwurst from the beer to cool to room temperature.

Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for an easier cleanup. To create space for the drippings, and to ensure even cooking, place a wire rack on top.

In a large bowl, lightly mix the brown sugar and cayenne pepper together and set aside. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

When cooled enough to handle, cut each bratwurst into three equal pieces. Place a jalapeno slice against the outside of the bratwurst and wrap the half slice of bacon around it to hold it in place. Secure each piece with a toothpick, then gently toss it with the sugar and cayenne mixture to coat.

Place the pieces equally spaced out on the the wire rack, and bake in preheated oven until the bacon is brown and crisp, about 25 to 35 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 4 bratwurst links
  • 3 (12 ounce) cans of light beer
  • 5 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 12  slices of jalapenos (optional)
  • 6 slices bacon, cut in half
