With fall in full swing, the smells and the harvest are in. And you can bring both into your kitchen with this Grilled Sausage with Apples and Caramelized Onions dinner recipe.
8 Purnell Hot Smoke Sausage Links
2 tablespoons butter
2 medium onions, halved and sliced
3 large apples peeled and cored, sliced into thin wedges
2 tablespoons apple cider or red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
- Heat up grill on High
- With a fork, puncture sausages three times. Place in a pot, cover with water, and simmer over medium-high heat for 7 minutes or until fully cooked. Remove from heat.
- Warm butter in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in onions, and cook until soft and translucent. Stir in apples, vinegar, and brown sugar; cook, stirring gently, until caramelized, about 10 to 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Meanwhile, place sausages on grill (or under broiler), and cook until well browned. Serve on a mound of caramelized apples and onions.
- Suggestion, place sausage with apples and onions and serve with fresh grilled vegetables, potatoes and thick crusty bread.
